An Approach to the Movers Problem that Combines Oriented Matroid Theory and Algebraic Geometry

چکیده
This paper investigates the partition of the configuration space induced b y basic contacts between polyhedra, using their combinatorial interpretation in terms of oriented matroids. It is shown that solving motion planning problems using this cellular decomposition can be analytically expressed in terms of invariants, without explicit use of artificial coordinate frames. One o f the main aims of this paper is to draw the a t tention of the reader to some results from the Theory of Matroids which are directly applicable to path planning, and many other geometric problems arising in Robotics. In particular, the relevance of the concept of mutation in the context of collision-free path planning is highlighted. Moreover, it is proved that the set of mutations contains the walls of a given cell in configuration space, and that this set, as one moves from one cell to a neighbor one, can be updated in linear t ime with the number of vertices. This provides a simple way to detect a large amount of redundant constraints from purely combinatorial considerations, without relying on the manipulation of algebraic equations.

An Problem-oriented Approach in Commenting “Pure Life” in the Verse 97 of Surah An-Nahl
The problem-oriented approach is one of the efficient methods of “contemplation in Quran”. This approach is applied as opposed to the subject-oriented and concept-oriented approaches. Historical analysis of the commentators’ appeal to the verse 97 Surah An-Nahl shows that lack of having the problem-oriented approach has led to the fact that many of them ignored this verse without making any com...

Tropical varieties play an important role in algebraic geometry. The Bergman complex B(M) and the positive Bergman complex B+(M) of an oriented matroid M generalize to matroids the notions of the tropical variety and positive tropical variety associated to a linear ideal. Our main result is that if A is a Coxeter arrangement of type Φ with corresponding oriented matroid MΦ, then B (MΦ) is dual ...
متن کاملA Algebraic Algorithms for Linear Matroid Parity Problems
We present fast and simple algebraic algorithms for the linear matroid parity problem and its applications. For the linear matroid parity problem, we obtain a simple randomized algorithm with running time O(mrω−1) where m and r are the number of columns and the number of rows and ω ≈ 2.3727 is the matrix multiplication exponent. This improves the O(mrω)-time algorithm by Gabow and Stallmann, an...
متن کاملTopological Representation of Dual Pairs of Oriented Matroids
Among the many ways to view oriented matroids as geometrical objects, we consider two that have special properties: • Bland’s analysis of complementary subspaces in IRn [2] has the special feature that it simultaneously and symmetrically represents a realizable oriented matroid and its dual; • Lawrence’s topological representation of oriented matroids by arrangements of pseudospheres [4] has th...
متن کاملAlgebraic Algorithms in Combinatorial Optimization
In this thesis we extend the recent algebraic approach to design fast algorithms for two problems in combinatorial optimization. First we study the linear matroid parity problem, a common generalization of graph matching and linear matroid intersection, that has applications in various areas. We show that Harvey’s algorithm for linear matroid intersection can be easily generalized to linear mat...
